Nyng Hopper
'painting is my language for conveying feelings about the environment including the people in my life'
Nyng paints predominantly in oils and is a master of the technique.
Her work encompasses a range of styles from abstracts to impressionistic landscapes and seascapes,
to realistic portraits and still lifes.
Her paintings are vibrant and unmuddied, full of air and life.
Nyng began painting at age 16, studying at Melbourne Tech after an early education at Firbank Anglican
School and University High School.
Whilst still at high school, she won the SunArt Competition and exhibited at Melbourne University.
Nyng has worked as a cartographic draughtsperson - for National Mapping, BHP,
the Melbourne and Metropolitan Board of Works, and the Cairns Regional Electricity Board.
After moving to New Guinea, she continued her career with the Lands Titles Commission. She and her husband
lived in several regions in the area, including Bougainville and the Solomon Islands.
On their return to Australia, Nyng resumed employment with Mineral Deposits on the Gold Coast,
Copemanhurst Shire Council and Shaw River Alluvials before moving to the Sunshine Coast.
There she worked with J.F.H. Murray & Associates in Nambour and Murdoch Geotech, Maroochydore.
Nyng is now a full-time artist, and has won several local art prizes. Her work hangs in several private
collections. Her paintings
describe the different facets of Australia - they will give the owner great pleasure
and appreciate in value.
